How to Successfully Handle Failure
Failure is oftentimes an event in our life that we do not want to experience again mainly because it hurts and it’s embarassing. Even more, the very experience of failing leads us to fear failure even more. It’s a traumatic thing and nobody wants it but it cannot be avoided. It’s part of life and we just have to learn how to handle failure.
I’ve missed more than nine thousand shots in my career. I’ve lost almost three hundred games. Twenty-six times I’ve been trusted to take the winning shot and missed. I’ve failed over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed. -Michael Jordan
Want it or not, failure is a pre-requisite of success. Accepting this fact is the first step to successfully handling failure. Most if not all successful people in this world have suffered lots of failure before they experienced success. The very thing that made them victors is that they merely know this basic fact, that failure is part of being successful.
Failure is an absolute pre-requisite for success. You learn to succeed by failing. -Brian Tracy
For each failure you encounter, you are one step closer to success. Thomas Edison made thousands of mistakes before he finally got it right when he invented the light bulb. What kept him from quitting was his mindset. He believes that he wasn’t making a mistake but rather that for each failed lightbulb, he simply discovered one more way NOT to make a lightbulb.
Being defeated is often a temporary condition. Giving up is what makes it permanent. -Marilyn Vos Savant
So, how many times does one have to deal with failure before he quits? My answer to this is you deal with failure until you achieve success. You just never quit. It may be the hardest thing in the world to do but still you don’t quit until you get there. It’s getting there that makes all the hardships and failures in life worth having. It’s all these embarrassing and heart-breaking moments that make us really appreciate the value of the goal that we want to achieve. So don’t quit.
I am not judged by the number of times I fail, but by the number of times I succeed… and the number of times I succeed is in direct proportion to the number of times I can fail and keep on trying. -Tom Hopkins
How many times do you have to be spat on the face, looked down at, called names, humiliated, scared to death and so on? As many times as it takes for you to reach success. That’s how you successfully handle failure.
